7. It appears from the reports of the

Retrenchment Commission and of the Director of

Public Works which form enclosures 3 and 4 to the

despatch that Government House is too small and is

out of date and expensive to maintain. I do not

think that we need quarrel with the proposed

removal to the Peak District especially as this

may result in the closing of the Governor's

summer residence.
